Franz Josef Glacier & Doubtful Sound
From Christchurch we cross to the west coast via Arthur's Pass and take a walk to the terminal face of the impressive Franz Josef Glacier. Then enjoy various options in Queenstown before taking a launch across Lake Manapouri and crossing the Wilmot Pass to reach the tranquil waters of Doubtful Sound. Here, we take an overnight cruise on the water-filled glacial valley and enjoy the show of stars this remoteness affords.
Stewart Island
From Doubtful Sound we head to Invercargill, then cross the "Roaring Forties" by catamaran to Stewart Island, an isolated landmass boasting large areas of virgin bush and offering the chance of seeing kiwis in the wild. There is plenty of time here to experience one of the true "ends of the earth".
Mount Cook & Hooker Valley
By way of Dunedin, we finally come to Mount Cook NP. A walk through Hooker Valley gives us a chance to enjoy alpine scenery and view the snowy peak of Mount Cook (3764m), towering over huge moving glaciers and meadows of alpine flowers.
