Day 1AccraArrive at Kotoka International Airport, transfer and check in to hotel.

Visit Independence Square (also known as Black Star Square), home of Independence Arch and the Flame of African Liberation. Continue to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, the mausoleum of Ghana's first President. *NOTE: Afternoon arrivals will visit these sites on Day 7.

Evening at leisure.

Overnight at Novotel Accra City Centre Hotel Or Similar

Day 2AccraTour James Town, a part of Accra featuring colonial era architecture including a 30 km high lighthouse and Fort James. Continue to Usher Town, where you will see Fort Ussher, a former prison where Kwame Nkrumah was once held. See Osu Castle (also known as Christiansbourg Castle), constructed by Denmark in the 1600s and the seat of government from 1876 to the present.

Continue to the National Theater to see a display of traditional instruments and carvings including "male" and "female" handcrafted drums. See the traditional crafts and other ethnographic displays at the National Museum.

Day 3Cape CoastAfter breakfast, depart Accra for Cape Coast. Tour Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1482. This castle was the first European structure in sub-Saharan Africa.

Continue to Cape Coast Castle and the Castle Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle is another restored UNESCO World Heritage Site, and was one of the departure points for Africans being sent to the Americas. The castle is home to the infamous Door of No Return.

Overnight at Elmina Beach Resort Or Similar

Day 4KumasiAfter breakfast, depart Cape Coast. Visit the Ndonkor Nsuo (Slave River) in Assin Manso where captured Africans had their last bath before being confined to await their departure to the Americas.

Arrive in Kumasi, where you will visit the Prempreh II Jubilee Museum, named for the former Asantehene (ruler of the Ashanti people) Nana Osei Agyeman Prempreh II. Exhibits include what is said to be a replica of the famed Golden Stool, which is believed to have descended from the sky and is the spiritual symbol of the Ashanti people.

Later in the afternoon, continue to see the Okomfo Anokye Sword, an important symbol of Ashanti unity that marks the spot where the Golden Stool descended from the sky and has been in place for 300 years. Legend says the Ashanti Kingdom would collapse should the sword ever be removed. Visit Manhiya Palace, which remains in use by the Asantehene today and houses a small historical museum.

Day 5KumasiAfter breakfast, visit Kumasi Central Market (also known as Kejetia Market), the largest open air market in West Africa where more than 10,000 vendors sell just about everything imaginable.

Tour Kumasi Fort, completed by the British in 1897 and the site of the Ashanti Rebellion initiated by Queen Mother Yaa Asantewaa in 1900. View a collection of weapons, photos, and memorabilia.

In the afternoon, return to Accra.

Day 6AccraToday, visit the WEB Du Bois Center, the former home and burial place of WEB Du Bois now transformed into a research center and library.

In the afternoon, visit the University of Ghana, home to a library filled with colonial era books and documents, and the Museum of Archeology where you will see displays on ancient crafts, human prehistory, Elmina Castle and more.

Day 7AccraVisit Independence Square (also known as Black Star Square), home of Independence Arch and the Flame of African Liberation. Continue to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, the mausoleum of Ghana's first President. *NOTE: Morning departures will have already visited these sites on Day 1.

Afternoon at leisure. Depart to airport for onward flight.
